Abstract: The transition metal thiophosphates are layered compounds with the special solid-state physical and chemical properties. Except the redox intercalation, some MPS3(M = Mn, Fe, Cd etc.) exhibited a unique non-redox intercalation based on the cation-exchange route. After intercalation many intercalation compounds based on MPS3 showed some novel physical properties such as ferrimagnetic, photomagnetic and nonlinear optical properties com-pared to the parent compounds, which makes them be the promising magnetic and photo-electronic functional or even multifunctional materials. In this article, the synthesis, structures and solid-state physical properties of the layered transition metal thiophosphates and their intercalation compounds have been reviewed. |
