Abstract: A novel cluster, (n-Bu4N)2[Fe4S4(tpbt)4](tpbt=2,4,6-triphenylbenzenethiolato), was synthesized by ligand-exchange reaction of (n-Bu4N)2([Fe4S4(S-t-Bu)4]with 2,4-6-triphenylbenzenethiol in DMF. The cluster shows [Fe4S4]3+/2+ and [Fe4S4]2+/1+ redox potentials at -0.14 and -1.31 V vs. SCE, respectively in acetonitrile. The result suggests that the 3+ state of [Fe4S4] core is stabilized relatively by the bulky tpbt ligand. |
